Gary Spillers Associate Broker, CCIM
Born in middle Georgia, Gary Spillers has remained close to his hometown of Milledgeville, Georgia. Throughout his life, he has resided in other unique towns like Atlanta, Macon and Auburn, Alabama. His travels have taken him all over the United States and most of Europe.
Gary was a 3-sport athlete in high school and was Baldwin High School’s 2nd All-State football player. He followed his love for football to Troy State University (now Troy University) where he worked his way from a “walk-on” football player to Team Captain, All Conference Linebacker and NAIA District 27 All-America.
After graduating from Troy, it wasn’t long before Gary found his future profession in real estate. Starting in Milledgeville, Georgia, he quickly became successful in real estate sales and moved to Atlanta, where he has spent most of his career beginning in residential real estate then in residential real estate management. While working in residential office management, Gary enrolled in management classes and earned the GRI designation from the Georgia Association of Realtors and CRB designation from the National Association of Realtors. During this period of time, Gary served two terms as President of a Board of Realtors and a Director of the Georgia Association of Realtors.
Desiring the opportunity to work on the commercial side of real estate, he enrolled in the Certified Commercial Investment Member Series of courses and was awarded the prestigious CCIM designation in May 1986. After beginning work as a commercial investment broker he structured several outstanding commercial transactions from the development and brokerage side of the business.
In 1997 Gary invented a new real estate product called “Sports Condominiums”. His first attempt at developing this product came in Auburn, Alabama in the form of Auburn’s Gameday Center (32 units); then came Bama’s Gameday Center (45 units), next was Georgia’s Gameday Center (133 units) and Tallahassee Center at Florida State (118 units), all four developments totaled $90,000,000 in closed sales. Each of these properties were featured in the major newspapers across the country including The Wall Street Journal on Sept. 19, 2006, The New York Times on April 26, 2010, Georgia Trend in August 2001, The Atlanta Journal in Oct. 2001 and many others.
Since the economic depression of 2008 that brought an end to speculative condo development, Gary has concentrated mostly on student housing and miscellaneous brokerage and developments in Middle Georgia with offices in Milledgeville under the name of Collegiate Ventures, LLC.
Gary Spillers real estate career has spanned 40± years and has accounted for over $125,000,000 in closed sales transactions in residential brokerage, commercial brokerage and development projects.
